VBS 2010

There is a reason that I'm behind in posting and it isn't just having two kids. Our church's VBS program was last week and I was in charge. I know ... I'm crazy. But we had a great time, and I enjoyed the experience.

Our family in our VBS t-shirts. A sweet girl made a special one for Clara. Seth volunteered in elementary recreation for two days.
Caleb at "Mission Control." Our theme was space.

Cousin Jenna

Jenna may be smaller than Jackson, but Caleb had a lot of fun with her as well. He really took to her. The night after they left, he woke up talking about Baby Jenna.

It will be fun to see Clara and Jenna grown and become friends.

Cousin Jackson

Seth's side of the family came in for a visit two weeks ago. Caleb loves having Jackson here, and we enjoyed seeing the boys play.

It was pretty hot outside so we watched Toy Story - or "Toy movie" as Caleb likes to call it - several times.
It's funny to watch these boys grow. Jackson is 9 months older than Caleb, and we've been through times that they are almost the same height and others - as illustrated above - where Jackson towers over Caleb. Caleb beats Jackson in the belly measurement though.
Check out their "stinky faces."
Waiting for Grandpa to spray the "shower" - more commonly known as a garden hose.

Clara's First Baby Tub Bath

Clara umbilical cord fell off so she got her first tub bath last night.

PS - there are several new posts following this one so be sure to scroll down to see them all.

Summer Adventures of Caleb

Caleb had gone through several changes during the first few weeks of summer - a new sister and a new school being the biggest two. The new sister has also meant that he has to be at home and inside a little more than usual, but he has been a trooper.

He likes playing with Clara's "toys." Here he is pretending to be a baby. I think he was trying to figure out a way to get a paci. He hasn't had one at all since February, but I think he has his eye on Clara's.

Pretending to talk to someone on the phone

He's a rotten little fella. Here he is after eating the ultimate summer treat - ice cream.

When you try to take his picture, he either runs or gets as close as possible to the camera.

He often asks to "play water," which means he wants to play outside in his pool. On this particular day he couldn't wait long enough for one of us to get his bathing suit.

As I said above, he's rotten.

Clara - 2 Weeks Old

Clara went to the doctor on Monday for her two week check-up. She had gained a pound in a week and is an inch longer than her birth height. The doctor was quite impressed with her growth.

She's a long girl!

Grandparent Visits

My parents were here while we were in the hospital and the first night we were home. Caleb was well entertained while Mommy and Daddy were away! He hardly missed us.

Seth's parents came in for a long weekend right after Clara was born. Caleb had a blast swinging and exploring the yard with Grandma and Grandpa. Clara just enjoyed being held by so many people that love her.

We felt very fortunate to have so much help while we were in the hospital and the first few days home.

Oh, and you can see from these two pictures how hard it is to get Caleb in a picture these days...

Clara Photos

Here are some pictures of Clara from the last week and a half. Catching her with her eyes open is hard as she is still just eating and sleeping a lot.

Sponge Bath

Mary Ann gave Clara her first sponge bath since leaving the hospital while they were here last week. She had also given Caleb his.

Clara seemed to enjoy having her head rubbed ... just like her mommy I guess.

New School for Caleb

Caleb started a new school today. It's our church's program, and we're excited for him to be there, but it was hard for us to leave his last school. It was a really good program - just more money than we can spend right now.

I've been feeling a lot of mommy guilt about this for the past couple of days. He's had enough change with Clara coming and then having to leave the friends and teachers he loved on top of that just made me sad for him. This morning, we talked to him about how church would be his new school. When Seth passed the turn off to Caleb's old school, Caleb said, "No, that way. School. Jacob." I'm glad I was in a separate car, because I think I would have lost it.

When we got to church/school, Caleb wasn't happy ... not that we expected him to be. But we left him in good hands - his teachers are super nice. He stopped crying about 1 minute after we left the room - about the time that I started crying. When I picked him up this afternoon, he looked super tired, which I hope is a sign that he had a good time. He told me "church - new school" so I guess he got the picture. Hopefully the drop off tears will stop soon ... for both of us. :)

Caleb meets his little sister

Caleb came to the hospital with Grandma, Grandaddy and Mea Mea on Sunday afternoon - the day Clara was born. He was tired already and it was pretty late in the day, so we probably started the introductions at a bad time. He didn't like the hospital elevators at all. Then he walked in my birthing room, but didn't like seeing me hooked up to all the machines at all. I'm really not sure he even noticed Clara because he just didn't like being in the hospital room.

He came back the next day in a much better mood. It helped that I was in my room without all the machines and tubes hooked up to me. He brought a balloon and a baby doll for Clara and got a kick out of giving the baby to Clara. He was very happy to see Mommy and Daddy too.

Here's a little video of Caleb meeting Clara:

Caleb giving Clara a kiss

Caleb hasn't done bad at all with Clara so far. At first he really didn't pay her any attention. He just wasn't too sure about me nursing her. I think he thought that it hurt me, but we've been trying to tell him that the baby is eating. For the past day or so Caleb has taken a little more interest. This morning he gave Clara her pacifier when she was fussy and wanted to hug and kiss her multiple times throughout the day. He also asks to "hold it."

Caleb loves to point out Clara's facial features. He also thinks it is funny when she sneezes.

Seth and I walked in from the hospital thinking that Caleb had surely gained 10 pounds while we were gone, and we realized more than ever how he is now a little boy rather than a baby. It's been fun to watch him go through this change with us, and we feel so blessed to be a family of four.

Introducing Clara Marie

7 lbs, 13 oz. 20 inches
We got to the hospital about 11 a.m. and she arrived 5 hours later. I couldn't believe how easy the delivery was - I pushed for 5 minutes at the most. Caleb was taken away from us almost immediately when he was born because of medical reasons, so we felt very blessed to be able to spend some time with our little girl.

Our new family!

Grandma and Grandaddy Wise were in town and were able to visit us at the hospital. It was so nice to have so many family and friends be a part of this experience.

Aunt Meagan ("Mea Mea") is living with us right now until she gets on her feet here in Nashville. I'm so excited she is moving here! She has been a huge help with Caleb and has taken good care of me as well.
